MESSAGE
FROM THE
MAYOR
Hello. We
are glad you have visited our Web page and hope you have
found something of interest. Eustace is a rural
community with a population of 848. We are located
along State Highway 175, a major trunk line through our
great state of Texas, on the western edge of East Texas
in Henderson County. Texas Department of Transportation
is in the process of widening this highway to 5 lanes
through town and a divided 4 lane highway coming in and
leaving town. Yes, this is now a construction zone and
will cause some slow down. The upside to this is you
will now have an opportunity to see our city. Being
rural doesn’t mean we are a one-horse town! We are
unique
Even though
we have a population under 900, we have one of the best
school districts in the county—Eustace Independent
School District. There are four individual campuses
with students numbering approximately 1540. They go
from Head Start, Primary, Intermediate, Middle and High
School. We are very proud of our School District,
teachers, coaches and administration.
We have
just completed major repairs to our water and sewer
system. We now have a new 125,000 gallon water
tower and a 4th water well. Our wastewater plant
received a brand new face lift and allowed us to
extend wastewater service to two more of our
subdivisions. We are now in the process of seeking
a $250,000 grant for replacement of old water lines,
a new water storage tank and improvements to our
wastewater lift stations.
One of our
treasures is our Town Square and Gazebo. Many functions
are planned here including our Christmas on the Square
with our famous Carriage Ride around the Square and our
Christmas Light Parade. The Square is picturesque and
peaceful with memorial benches and old-time light globes
scattered throughout. Our old log cabin is open for
viewing during Pioneer Day, Harvest Fest and Christmas
on the Square. The Eustace Historical Society has
restored the old Moseley log cabin to its former stature
and is worth the tour. We have several establishments
that face the Square and there is also a Veteran’s
Memorial on the Square. A little known fact is that the
first hospital in Henderson County was right here in
Eustace on the Square. It has now been converted to
apartments and a Laundromat.
As you can
see, we are progressive thinking, with the main thread
being the retention of our uniqueness and rural
atmosphere. We encourage new businesses to come visit
us. We have several new single-family subdivisions from
starter homes to custom homes in a country setting.
School spirit and community spirit are very strong in
Eustace. Come see us!
